Vegas... and the Star Trek Convention

On the 12th day of our vacation, we began the last leg of the journey and that was the Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas!!! We began collecting costumes and props years ago, which led to our wedding in Vegas, two years prior, so it is a very special time when we get together with our Trekkie friends to celebrate our anniversary! Our friends began arriving Wednesday night and the party began!!

On our Anniversary, we spend the day at the Convention with our friends and seeing some of the people who worked on the show and the actors we know. It was a great day!!

We ended the evening with dinner with some fabulous friends! Thanks Susie, Edward, Carolan and Matt for sharing our special evening!!

The next day we day a lot of our Trek friends and actors, that evening we went to a Roddenberry Party on Risa at the Mirage Hotel!! ~ It was a blast!!

Here are some pics of Susie, Edward, Steve and I...plus some additional pics of our friends, Eric, Pam and Bill!

Zion National Park ... UTAH!!

So, as if a day at Hoover Dam and Liberace's Musuem wasn't enough... we took the next day and headed to UTAH!! Yes..that's right, we went to Zion National Park in Utah, just about two and half hours from Las Vegas, it is an incredible drive and completely worth it!

Here are some pictures just to show you how incredible Zion is!!! We didn't get a chance to go to Bryce Cannon, but we are definitely going back.

AMAZING!!

We stopped and had lunch in the Park, there are cabins that you can rent and stay! In case you would like to visit, here are the Cabins!

Hoover Dam And Liberace's Museum

Our next day, we ventured out to Hoover Dam!! WOW!! What an incredible place! We took the tour and we walked out onto the Dam`It's an incredible engineering feat! They are getting ready to close the actual dam and are almost finished with the bridge that will go OVER the dam!

LAKE MEAD

Liberace's Museum!!

The oldest Piano dating back to 1750s, only two in existence.

After Hoover Dam, we headed back to Vegas and went to Liberace's Museum. I was amazed at the costumes, the jewelry and Steve even enjoyed the rare automobiles Liberace collected as well as the vast array of Pianos.

The Largest Swarovski Crystal 115,000 carats- given to Liberace

A blingy pink car!!

Cars and German Food and Beer!!

We got into Vegas for a little R and R, after the trek across the West. We rested for the first day lounging by the pool and getting set up our new "house" for the week! The next day we ventured out to see some of Vegas... OFF the strip!

Our first stop was the Shelby Manufacturing Plant just outside of Vegas, near the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. We enjoyed a tour as well as looking at some of the most expensive cars in the world!!

Here is Steve signing the wall at Shelby's a tradition by all who visit!!

We met one of Steve's friends from Phillip's College, Paula, who lives in Vegas and she always picks the best restaurants in Vegas to meet. This year, she chose the Hoffbrau, German Restaurant, where we enjoyed authentic German food and beer - the picture was taken inside their authentic Beer Garden! We were able to pick up some actual German Beer too, as well as a Steiff Bear for a friend!

GRAND Canyon!!!

Our next road venture was the Grand Canyon, and all I can say it was GRAND!! WOW! We didn't have very long to see much of the Canyon and it was raining on and off, but the majesty, the colors, the entire Canyon is amazing! Below are some pics, which I am certain will not do the Canyon justice.

Any Eagles fans??

Not the bird(NOT the football team Kellner)...the band!! As we moved through Arizona, there was a town we passed called Winslow, AZ! We saw on a tourist map that there was an entire park dedicated to the line in the Eagle's song, Take it Easy. The line says, "standin on a corner in Winslow, Arizona, and such a fine sight to see, It's a girl my Lord in a flatbed ford, slowin down to take a look at me.." In case you want to refresh your memory - here it is Take it Easy!

Well, here are some pics from the infamous Winslow, Arizona, which since I-40 moved, has really declined, the good news is the this "standin on the corner park" it has revived the town a bit, so if you get a chance, we would encourage a stop and take it easy... ;-)

As an aside, we also found Prewitt, New Mexico and Steve's Blvd!!! Love traveling the U.S.!!! :-)
